freshwater-fishing Trolling Motor Free Helpful Guidepost

I bought this motor about a month back. It has performed great. It is my primary motor for my 14′ v-bottom. Gets me where I need to go and back, without draining my batteries too bad at full power. I would give it a 5 star rating, but I have only had it a month. Great motor. A little tip as well, I got mine for $177 and free shiping. Unless you need it right away wait for the price to drop.

Minn Kota trolling motors are some of the highest quality and effective types of mobility on the water today. What makes them so special is the fact that these battery powered devices are extremely quiet and easy to handle, allowing you to concentrate on fishing rather than battling with steering the boat. Of course, the overall weight of the boat is one of the factors we should consider; different boats need different types of power. Other things to consider include the length and the conditions that you will be fishing under. Taking all these things into account will help make sure you choose the right electric trolling motors.

Basically, Trolling Motor the kind of motor for your boat is decided by the lenght of the vessel but it is recommended to choose the next most powerful type available if you happen to carry an extra weight with you. This includes extra passengers or gear. These things can weight you down, causing the motor to have to work too hard if it's not powerful enough. Either way though, Minn Kota trolling motors are up for handling just about any type of challenge.

Deciding whether you need bow mount trolling motors or transom mount is a different story. The bow mount go in the front of the boat, and are perfect if you have enough room for it as well as a mounting bracket to attach it to. If you don't have the right type of boat for this, you need to get a transom mount that attaches to the back, because they work with any type of boat. The bow mount is actually more effective, so if you can attach it get one, because they allow you to maneuver much better. Of course, transom types are more effective for smaller boats.

Overall, you will find that it's hard to be the quality and reliability of Minn Kota trolling motors, but it's still important and up to you to make sure that you get the right type for your boat. Whether you need a bow mount or a transom mount, the key is having the most control you possibly can|.

Amazon.com makes life much easier when shopping for boating items. I save a lot of time and get exactly what I need–delivered fast and at a very fair price.

I had an older bow mount trolling motor which had electronics go out. Replacing the circuit board was nearly as expensive as this entire new unit. The shaft is the same length and diameter, allowing me to use this new unit with my old setup, at less than half the cost of a new bow mount unit.

This required a bit of work to disassemble the head, remove the wiring, break down the collars and mounting hardware, long enough to transfer from one mounting to another. Took a bit of a chance all would match up, but the results were well worth the effort!

The only drawback I find is the low speed isn’t low enough for my taste. If left pointed in one direction, you end up travelling too fast to fish a bank or pier.

This is my third minnkota i had earlier autopilot wireless model, riptide, now this one in 48inch shaft. The good its beautiful black color, great aluminum build quality. How could MotorGuide come close to this motor they cant! I was looking for lowest priced decent motor. There are other types with different mounts but this unit is best. No clumsey wiring to foot control its all electronic baby with electric steering. Everyone says get 24v um why 12volt is simple offers great power to move 17 foot crestliner if i need longer trolling time add two batterys + to + neg to neg. I plan on installing 40amp inline circuit breaker or fuse close to positive side battery. The advantage of electric motors for trolling you can get the speed just right for pop gear worm, walleye fishing pulling bottom bouncers. I have a kicker motor but tell you what this unit gets used its more enviormently friendly must have for nice boat. Most important option on my rig! Amazon is fantastic super quick shipping like 2 days ground LOL. Autopilot feature on other motors is nice but not totally needed you just do more imputing on controls. Mounting read the directions look at sheet supplied. You will need a helper to hold unit where you want it in down position. Under two plastic side plates are where the bolts go. The motor must be far enough out from boat to lower and raise unit. Dont go to far out just enough. Try and center motor but off angle to right is preffered not straight ahead. They do offer a quick release bracket it will raise motor couple inches there nice to have for removing motor for winter but not required. Perfect score motor i see no way of improving its looks or function. Shafts for bow are toss up a super deep v alum boat like starcraft 19 id go 55inch shaft or lund tyee, fisherman. My crestliner sits little lower in water and 48 if fine!

Not a bad trolling motor-be sure to mount it in the CENTER of the front of the boat-we have an old bass boat that had a foot controlled trolling motor that mounted on the front of the boat, but off to the side. We mounted the new one in the same spot as the one we took off, but the boat tends to want to track sideways a little. We plan on moving it to the center as soon as my husband’s health returns. Plenty of power, even when it’s windy. We would purchase this motor again.

I purchased this trolling motor for my pontoon and it is a great product which does not drain your battery after a long day out on the lake. The trolling motor has a built in battery meter to show you how much of a charge remains on your battery. In addition to such a great buy on Amazon if you go purchase this trolling motor Minn Kota has a promo going where they will give you the free wireless remote which is normally $150 so its a no brainer as you can sit in the back of the boat and control your trolling motor.

I have recently mounted this motor and would like to make some comments. If you plan to use a motor mounted transducer for your bow fish finder–Forget it!! The shaft of this unit slides up in an enclosed sleeve that makes it impossible to secure the transducer wire, therefore it is always hanging loose and tangleing. If you want to use a bow fishfinder bite the bullet and go for the internal mounted transducer model. Also if you are going to cover your boat better get the quick disconnect mount as this motor sticks way out in front of the bow and covers won’t fit. The electric turning motor is pretty slow. There is no lighted directional marking on the top of the unit for night fishing. These are the reasons I rated it at a three.
